Creative Strings Collective Auditions

If you play violin, viola, cello, bass, piano, drum set or are a rapper and would like to audition for CSC, please plan on a 10 minute audition, Thursday, August 31st between 2 and 6pm (contact director to set up). Audition will include: 3 octave scale of your choice, Solo or orchestral piece that you are already familiar with, Excerpts from "Hamilton" (contact director for parts).
CSC is a music loving, fun group. You are always welcome to check us out for the first couple of weeks and make sure it's a good fit. Potential fall 2017 pieces include "My Shot" from Hamilton, Firebird Suite, pieces by Eric Whitacre, Beatles, bossa nova, Klezmer, R&B, folk, and swing. Come join us! MUSI 057. Creative Strings Collective (.25) This innovative string ensemble (violin, viola, cello, bass) breaks into nonconventional genres for strings in addition to performing traditional string orchestra repertoire. The course includes but is not limited to the following styles: bluegrass, blues, classical, jazz, Latin, pop, and tango. Students are encouraged to engage through performance, improvisation and theory with opportunities for arranging and composition. Students need only basic skills on their instrument and an open mind. Neither prior improvisational skills nor theory background are required. Open to all students, audition by director, Amber Dolphin. (

Turtle Tunes Music Outreach Info Meeting (teach music to 3rd graders)

Violinists, Violists, Cellists, Guitarists, Pianists, Drummers and anyone interested in teaching drumming, recorder or even ukulele, please read on! Please join advisor and current student teachers, to learn more about the Turtle Tunes Music Outreach program, tomorrow, Thursday, August 31st from 4:15-4:45 in Room 221, 2nd floor-Hendricks Building. Bring something to write with and your semester schedule. If you can't make it but are interested in the class and teaching 3rd graders, please contact advisor Amber Dolphin ( The class time is once a week for just over an hour. The teaching portion is twice a week for an hour each (8 weeks only). This course counts for your LAP-1 credit requirement. MUSI 390. Special Projects - Turtle Tunes Music Outreach (.25-.50). Turtle Tunes Music Outreach Program is committed to making extra-curricular music lessons inclusive, accessible and affordable to local 3rd graders while creating a community engagement project for Beloit College students to develop skills and make meaningful connections. Lessons and instrument rental are completely free to participants. This creative outlet provides all students a safe space to build self-esteem, practice responsibility and develop a love for music. More info: Students participate in teaching group and partner lessons at Todd Elementary or Merrill Elementary 2 times a week, Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5:00 pm, 8 weeks total. Preparations, discussions and reflections occur during a semester-long class on Thursdays, time TBD. (new students to the program will register .50 unit, and continuing students will register .25 unit)
